Mit dieser Veranstaltung wollen wir den Fokus auf die Kulturproduktion in Palästina lenken.
Welche Art von Kunst wird in einem besetzten Land produziert, das schon mit den Widrigkeiten des Alltags enorm zu kämpfen hat? Welches sind die Themen unter solchen Bedingungen? Welche kulturelle Identität bildet sich dabei heraus? Gibt es eine solche überhaupt? Welche Möglichkeiten der Kulturförderung existieren in einem nicht souveränen Land? Gibt es Zensur? Gar von den eigenen Leuten? Welches ist die kulturelle Bedeutung der Palästinenser in der Diaspora?
Was es unter vielem anderem zu entdecken gibt, ist die Existenz einer kleinen aber sehr vitalen Hip Hop Szene, die sich in vielem von dem unterscheidet, was wir aus Europa und den USA kennen. Schon die Texte der Gruppen und einzelnen Rapper verdeutlicht, dass hier junge Menschen unter Umständen aufwachsen, die uns – bei aller Ghetto-Koketterie – in dieser Härte völlig unbekannt sind. Fernab von den leidigen Macho-Allüren vieler westlicher Rapper, versuchen die jungen PalästinenserInnen mit ihren Reimen und den Beats den Umständen ihres z.T. wahnwitzigen Alltags auf den Grund zu gehen mit dem Anspruch, dies verändern zu wollen. Das musikalische Spektrum ist dabei weit, es reicht von Jazz bis zu orientalischen Einflüssen, und ist von einer erstaunlich hohen Qualität.

Um 21.30h findet eine offene Diskussion mit den Künstlern statt- der berner Rapper Greis wird an dieser Diskussion ebenfalls teilnehmen.Die Themen- und Fragenstellungen werden von den Teilnehmenden definiert.

Die Künstler:
The Black Revolution Rap Band is a palestinian rap band that established itself at the end of 2008, and contains four young men, Rajeh, Shihab, Wajd and Mohamad. It’s the first rap band in Hebron, which gives them the power to speak about the situation in their city, the settlers and their actions against the palestinians and the old city of Hebron, which is occupied by Israel. They chose rap as an expression of their feelings, their anger and their views as young members of society.

Kayaan: Existenz, so lautet die Übersetzung von KAYAAN aus dem Arabischen. Die Band, gegründet und produziert vom Pianisten Christian Müller, spielt Arabic Jazzrap und besteht aus drei Rappern aus Palästina (We7) sowie sechs Jazzmusikern und einer Sängerin aus der Schweiz. So entsteht eine Verschmelzung von groovigem Jazz und bouncigem HipHop und besonders von unterschiedlichen Kulturen.

District Rhymes Unit: It’s the first unit in Palestine, and it contains Niza Qabaha, Amine Abdullhadi and Talha Al-Ali. The unit made many tours in all cities in Westbank-Palestine with Palestinian, European and American rappers. It came up with the idea of being the messengers of change. District Rhymes Unit differentiate, they pay attention to the social issues in society, the social topics that go beyond the occupation. They believe that we can’t make anything better unless we become better inside, so the only way to get our freedom is by educating the people and critizise the situations that keep us stuck.

DARG Team is a group of young talented hip hop artists from Gaza city, Palestine. DARG Team established on the late 2007 and it was combined by two groups of hip hop were known as DA-Mcz and RG and that’s where the name DARG came from. The idea of combining the two groups in one was made by the three MCS Sami Bakheet, Bassam and Mohammed Al Massri and Art Director Fadi Bakheet. The three MCS had started making hip hop since 2003 and released a lot of singles on the internet which had a lot of attention, by the time the ambition of the team started to grow and with that growth it needed a lot of other young talented artists who joined later such as a Marouf Abu-Abdo as the music producer and DJ, Ahmed BadranArabic beat maker and Adham Qudwa as photographer.

Dar Qandeel: The band established itself in 2005 through a movement by it’s volunteers in Tulkrmcity. Dar Qandeel are: Ahmed Tanbouz (Abu Wadee); singer, Samer Abu Hantash; Oud player, and Alaa Abu Saa: songwriter. The band published two albums, the first one “Why the freedom” in 2006, and the second “No’maan” in 2010. Their music is old traditional Palestinian music. They sing about freedom and occupation, “political topics” and about humanity, the suffering, they sing for poor people and about the wrong habits in society. They toured outside Palestine but it’s their first time in Switzerland.
