Break is Evita Koné’s highly anticipated first solo EP. The project is an exploration of what it means to break old habits and observe oneself in a new light. Working with Christophe Calpini and finding a common sound was part of the process of duality and harmony, tied together by their mutual friend Zacharie Ksyk on the trumpet.
With politically-oriented “Drums” and grime-inspired “Drop That” featuring Dr Koul on one end of the spectrum, and soul/disco “Moment” and “Shoot Your Shot” on the other, Evita Koné balances intensity and softness through lyrical dexterity and vocal prowess.
Playing with the duality of darkness and light (daybreak), Break leaves the listener with a bittersweet yet ultimately empowering feeling of self-acceptance.
