NYC/Berlin-based Bee and Flower is led by the smoky-voiced singer/bassist/songwriter Dana Schechter. The group specializes in twisted, yet catchy melodies, heartbreaking swoons, and a fierce, dark sonic tableaux. Haunting piano, vocals, strings, percussion, bass and drums creates a distinctive and powerful mix of transcendent beauty and fierce rawness.
Their debut release (What’s Mine is Yours, 2003, Neurot Recordings) was a purely “band” album, but subsequent full length releases (2007, Last Sight of Land and Suspension, 2012) found a regular cast of collaborators in studio and stage, including Martin Wenk (Calexico), Thomas Wydler (Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds), Paul Watson (Sparklehorse), Peter Von Poehl (solo), Danny Tunick (Barbez), Toby Dammit (Swans, Iggy Pop), J.G. Thirlwell (Foetus, Kronos Quartet), Kristof Hahn (Swans), and more.
The band members themselves have worked in projects like Angels of Light, American Music Club, Keren Ann, Tarnation, Bertrand Burgalat, April March, Martin Gallop, And the Wiremen, Botanica, and more.
