Ali Wells (aka Perc) is one of the leading artists working in the techno sub-genre of electronic music, an international touring DJ and live performer, a label owner and one of the most respected producers of electronic music to have ever have come from the UK. Wells mixes current sounds with his extensive knowledge of electronic music’s past to create something new & unique to each of his performances. A regular artist on such internationally respected labels as CLR (Germany), Kompakt (Germany), Drumcode (Sweden), Stroboscopic Artefacts (Italy) and Electric Deluxe (Netherlands) as well as his own world-renown Perc Trax imprint, which has distributed its music globally from its London base since 2004.
In 2011 his debut album ‘Wicker & Steel’ was released and the move to the full-length format brought him a new level of international respect and recognition. Following launch parties in London and Tokyo the album picked up plaudits including a full feature and interview with Wells in The Guardian newspaper in the UK.
In 2012 Perc won the prestigious BBC’s ‘Tomorrow’s Cult Artist’ award. He was nominated by a group of respected music industry and radio figures and then won the award via a public vote. The award result was announced live on BBC Radio to an audience of millions.
As a DJ, Perc has performed across the world in internationally respected venues including Berghain in Germany, Fabric in the UK, Cocoliche in Argentina, Space Ibiza in Spain and Unit in Tokyo. He has also performed at large scale festivals including Mystery Land and Awakenings in the Netherlands, Kozzmozz in Belgium, Mayday in Poland, Winterworld in Germany and Earthcore in Australia.
Demonstrating his appeal across genres Wells collaborated with established German band Einstürzende Neubauten in 2013, reaching a wider audience than ever before. 2014 saw the release of Wells’ highest profile release to date, his second full-length album ‘The Power & The Glory’ which was supported by sold-out launch events in London, Berlin, Paris, Amsterdam and Singapore.
In 2014 Perc Trax celebrated 10 years of releasing music with a well received tour across Europe and South America and anniversary celebrations also saw the release of Wells’ first commercially available DJ mix album ‘Slowly Exploding’.
Throughout 2016 Wells continues to play across Europe, South America and toured India for the first time. He has put together and toured a new live show to be toured around the world and worked in studios around the UK to create his third artist album.
2017 saw the release of the third Perc album ‘Bitter Music’, which gained widespread press coverage, both online and in print publications. The album’s breakout song ‘Look What Your Love Has Done To Me’ became the highest selling song in the 13 years that Wells’ Perc Trax record label had been operational for. The end of the year also saw Wells, in collaboration with Tom Russell (pka Truss) win the DJ Magazine award for ‘Best Remix’ for their remix of ‘Move Your Body’ by Mumdance & Logos.
As well as a busy schedule of international solo performances 2018 saw Wells mainly work on collaborative live projects, including one with Kieran Whitefield (pka Ansome). As ‘Perc & Ansome’ they played festivals across the world with the technically innovative live show. Wells also found time in late 2018 to record a new three track single, which is set for release in March 2019.
Now in 2019 Perc has returned to the Netherlands event Awakenings, which is amongst the largest and most prestigious events in its musical field for a run of three exclusive performances across the year. This is in addition to planned tours of Asia and South America plus his regular tally of 70 – 80 high profile European performances during the year.
